Whether you are a novice or a veteran, if you just bought an electric mountain bike , or you are ready to buy an emtb but never riding an e mountain bike before, we suggest that you read this article to understand the battery, tire pressure, chain, brake, pedal maintenance and cleaning tips of the electric mountain bike.
Battery
When
it comes to battery, the first thing you need to focus on is charging.
We recommend charging a new e-bike once
before its FIRST time on the road. Remember to FULL the battery. In the next
several rides, you may also use deep
charge deep discharge mode, which means recharging after deeply discharging.
Like the maintenance of the computer battery, the purpose is to cater to the
memory effect of the battery, make the battery power statistics more accurate (here
are many different theories about this point, we'd appreciate if you could
leave a comment and tell us more).
Any electrical battery that is completely
discharged will cause a great load on the battery, which is the same with electric
mountain bikes. Therefore, all the manufacturers will warn you not to
completely consuming power during riding. After riding, charge your car once,
and keep the battery level within a certain range even if you don't use it for a
long time (there are many opinions about the battery level, which are generally
kept above 60%).
Secondly,
it should be noted that cadence corresponds to the power assisted gear.
Everyone who has ridden a bicycle knows
that cadence is the number of
revolutions per minute when riding, and is also the basic concept of riding
efficiency. As for electric mountain bikes, different power assisted gears have
different requirements for cadences. DO NOT choose the largest power assisted
gear in pursuit of higher speed. If you can't keep up with the speed of cadences,
the torque will rise. Then pedaling will become laborious, which will not only
make your riding difficult, but also waste the battery power, which will have a
certainly negative impact on the battery life.

Tire
Pressure
Tires are always touching the ground, which
will inevitably lead to wear and tear. Therefore, selecting the appropriate
tire pressure according to the weight of
the person, the width of the tire and the road conditions can not only
prolong the life and avoid the damage of the tires, but also make the rider feel
more comfortable.
Properly reducing the tire pressure on the
uphill road can increase the contact area between the tire and the ground, but when
tire pressure is too low, it will make turning difficult and increase the possibility
of tire damages. Properly increasing the tire pressure can improve the riding
stability, but when tire pressure is too high, it may cause the e-bike to slip.
In addition of suspension, one of our colleagues in the technical department
suggested that the adjustment should be
on the basis of the weight of your own and travel backpack. Front fork pressure
adjustment is based on personal preference, if you prefer riding in a tough
style, pre-pressure could be set to 15% -20%. 20% -25% suits to moderate style.
And 26% -35% would be soft style. The adjustment of the air shock is the same, but
the adjustment of coil shock needs to change the number of spring pounds, which
is troublesome.

Chains
& Pedals
Chains
play a significant role in the transmission system of bicycles. Generally, we need to check whether the chains are worn or broken before
riding to avoid accidents. The maintenance of the chains is focusing on the
lubrication of the chains. There are many brands of chain lubricants available
in the market, which are usually divided into dry and wet ones. Dry lubricants
are suitable for dry environments, while wet ones are suitable for wet environments.
Both of which can be adsorbed on the chains to reduce the possibility of
friction and rust. You can learn how to lubricate chains on YouTube.
The use
of lubricant should also be considered by pedals. However,
since the maintenance of pedals requires the assistance of professional
disassembly tools, if you are a novice, you don't need to pay too much
attention to the pedal maintenance. After all, as long as you don't ride in
some extreme harsh environment, your pedals won't hurt too much.
Cleaning
Unlike other types of bike, you do need to consider about the motor and battery of
your electric mountain bike when cleaning it. Although almost all the electric
mountain bikes are equipped with waterproof performance (such as FREY bike), the
battery base is not waterproof. As a result, direct water contact with the
battery and the motor is still not recommended. Even you should be more careful
when riding in the rain or wading into the water. Some friends online may
suggest you clean your battery when it is disassembled, others say that just
brushes, dry rags and wet rags would be okay. Whatever you do, just remember to
keep your battery and motor dry.
The cleaning of other parts is the same as normal bicycles. First step is the parts of transmission, checking the chains and cleaning them. Then use the detergent to remove the stains, dry your electric mountain bike with dry rags. KEEPING YOUR ELECTRIC MOUNTAIN BIKE DRY is the most important point. Some people in the Reddit also said that you can take your bike to the outside, ride it for some time while drying it naturally in the wind. Such a convenient method!
Storage
Now it’s coming to the coldest time for a
year, lots of riders are preparing to get their bike stored. If you are ready
to do this, you need to look for a dry and tidy space in advance where can keep
your new electric mountain bike the best state and performance. You need to keep the temperature of this space between
-10℃ and 40℃. Keep your e-bike away from extremely hot or cold environments,
also away from wind, rain and fire. Do
not remove battery from your electric mountain bike, otherwise the risk of
corrosion in the contacts and terminals may be increased.
Some riders may be ready to keep fit in
this winter, they choose to ride on the outside. If you want to follow them,
please don’t be worried that your electric mountain bike is too fragile to ride
in the cold. On the contrary, when you start the motor in a cold day, it will
keep warm and the life of battery won’t be shortened. Just ride your new electric
mountain bike to the road.
